21 Vogue Editors on the Best Bedding Brands They Swear By

The importance of a good night’s sleep is indisputable—but actually getting it is another matter. The best bedding brands and products can provide an extra level of comfort that many of us need as the lines separating work from personal life have become increasingly blurred. According to the National Sleep Foundation, “using TVs, tablets, smartphones, laptops, or other electronic devices before bed delays your body’s internal clock (a.k.a., your circadian rhythm), suppresses the release of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin, and makes it more difficult to fall asleep.” How many of us are guiltily bringing work to bed, now more than ever? Perhaps it’s time we all take a moment to disconnect and settle into sheets, quilts, and duvets that improve our at-home experience.

Huayan are exported all over the world and different industries with quality first. Our belief is to provide our customers with more and better high value-added products. Let's create a better future together.

And for anyone that’s broken out into a sweat trying to insert their duvet into its cover, then you will appreciate the fuss-free nature of this one from B&B. • Why we love it: Years of research went into ensuring this pillow achieves the balance between comfort and support. It’s also adjustable so you can control the firmness.
  • What our editors have to say: “A good pillow is a game-changer for sleep, which is what Marlow’s has been for me. • What our editors have to say: “My now 5-year-old son has a dino that he snuggles with every night, he absolutely cannot be apart from dino (we actually have four dinos just in case), I can relate to this because of my relationship to my Snoogle. A Snoogle is a hook-shaped enormous pillow that envelopes you like a hug when you're sleeping on your side when you're pregnant. Nothing was cozier than cuddling with my Snoogle, who needs a partner!”—Chloe Malle, editor of Vogue.com

The latter is made from upcycled water bottles that would have ended up in a landfill if not the ocean, and it’s all Oeko-Tex Certified—which, in layperson terms, means free of substances that aren’t worth cuddling.” —Arden Fanning, beauty editor at large

  • What our editors have to say: “I had to get all new bedding last summer after a storage unit catastrophe—a new mattress, pillows, down comforter, bed frame, the works!—but I am so glad I did. During my chance for a bed do-over and bedding refresh, I opted for a white linen duvet cover and shams for a bit of soft fluffy texture and went for smooth percale sheets and pillowcases in Parachute's off-white cream color. I love the slight difference in tones and materials, it adds a bit of dimension to my not quite-all-white cloud.” —Madeline Fass, senior market editor

The 7 Best Sheets To Achieve Your Deepest Sleep Yet ... - Forbes

Sheets are an integral piece of your bedroom setup; more than simply contributing to your aesthetic, they can also improve your sleep by providing comfort and temperature regulation. Our pick for the best sheets overall is the Boll & Branch Signature Hemmed Sheet Set, as they’re durable and cooling with a luxurious feel—plus they come in a wide range of attractive colors and patterns.

But everyone has a difference preference when it comes to sheets. Some like them crisp and thick, while others may prefer a soft and lightweight material. No matter what you’re looking for, we rounded up the seven best sheet sets to cater to a wide range of sleepers and their needs, all based on thorough research and testing.

Best Sheets Overall

A High-End Feel That Only Gets Softer Over Time

Materials: 100% organic long-staple cotton | Thread count: Not listed | Sizes: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, California king, split king | Key features: Organic materials, Oeko-Tex certification, matte finish

Pros:

If you want to learn more, please visit our website Bedding fabric manufacturer.

  • Polished look with a long hem on the top sheet and pillowcases
  • Durable and less likely to pill
  • Designed to get softer over time

Cons:

  • Not as affordable as other options on this list

Boll & Branch’s Signature Hemmed Sheet Set earned the top spot on this list because these sheets are luxurious, naturally cooling and long-lasting. Made from 100% organic cotton, they feature a classic matte finish that’s similar to what you’d find in a high-end hotel—and they get softer with every wash. The fitted sheet can also fit mattresses up to 17 inches (or your thicker-than-average bed), so we think they’re an accommodating pick for most people. We also appreciate the large variety of colors and patterns to choose from.

“The Signature Sheets were the first set of luxury bedding I tested around five years ago, and ever since, there have been very few sheet sets that lived up to the buttery softness, durability and breathable feel of this pair,” says mattress and sleep editor McKenzie Dillon. “The sheets have been through countless cycles in the washer and dryer and they never lost their silky-smoothness.” She adds that they drape over you without making you feel too hot, allowing you to use them year-round.

Best Affordable Sheets

A Soft, Durable Pick That's Easy On The Wallet

MOST POPULAR

Materials: Double-brushed microfiber | Thread count: Not listed | Sizes: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, California king, split king | Key features: Choice of 45 colorways, Oeko-Tex certified

Pros:

  • Soft fabric helps regulate temperature and wick away moisture
  • Deep pocket options for tall mattresses
  • Resistant to shrinking and wrinkling

Cons:

  • Material is not as high-quality or natural as others on this list

I discovered this Mellanni set nearly a decade ago when I was visiting a friend and needed to know what sheets were on her guest bed. They were soft and lightweight while still having a quality feel. When I learned the price, I immediately ordered a set that—according to my Amazon order history—lasted a little over three years before I ordered another. (Keep in mind these were my main sheets at the time.)

Their endorsements don’t come from my friend and me alone, though; these sheets have received over 64,000 5-star reviews from other shoppers who compliment their smoothness, durability and temperature regulation. The microfiber material offers a soft feel that isn’t prone to wrinkling nor clinging to the skin. Whether for a guest room or primary bedroom, this Mellanni sheet set is a solid budget-friendly option that comes in every color of the rainbow and then some. Just keep in mind the microfiber material is not as natural or high-quality as the others on this list.

Best Cooling Sheets

Crisp And Breathable For Toasty Nights

Brooklinen Classic Percale Core Sheet Set (Queen)

Materials: 100% long-staple cotton | Thread count: 270 | Sizes: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, California king | Key features: Oeko-Tex certified, “long” and “short” tags on fitted sheet

Pros:

  • Crisp yet soft
  • Breathable design for hot sleepers
  • Envelope closures on pillowcases

Cons:

  • Prone to wrinkles
  • Not as soft as sateen or bamboo

If you love a cool, crisp feel, Brooklinen’s Classic Percale Core Sheet Set delivers to the nth degree. (Think: sleeping while wrapped up in a luxe button-down shirt.) Thanks to the percale weave, the sheets are breathable while still maintaining a substantial weight. They have more structure to them than bamboo sheets, without trapping heat—instead, they wick away moisture.

One of our testers found them to embody a smoothness that feels luxurious. “If you’re looking for a high-quality sheet set that holds up well to regular washing, this is worth considering,” she says. We also love how they have “long” and “short” labels, so making the bed is a more effortless task, and envelope pillowcases to keep your pillows in place.

Best Bamboo Sheets

A Soft And Cozy Set To Cuddle Up With

Materials: 100% viscose from organic bamboo | Thread count: 300 | Sizes: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, California king | Key features: Soft sateen weave, choice of 16 colorways, Oeko-Tex certified

Pros:

  • Fabric helps regulate temperature and wick away moisture
  • Available with or without a flat sheet
  • Soft yet durable

Cons:

  • Can be prone to wrinkling

I’m a huge fan of bamboo sheets, as they offer a buttery-soft feel that keeps you cool. Out of the several sets I’ve tested, I’ve kept this pick from Quince in my regular rotation because it has the most balanced feel in terms of being soft and lightweight, but not too thin or lacking substance. I also enjoy their subtle sheen and drapey appearance, and they’ve maintained their softness after several washes. Since they’re made with 100% viscose from organic bamboo, they’re hypoallergenic and a great option for anyone with sensitive skin or allergies.

You can choose from 16 different colors and forgo the flat sheet if you’d like. In order to prevent wrinkling, Quince recommends pulling the sheets out from the dryer immediately. The brand also suggests avoiding using fabric softener or dryer balls when washing and drying them to prevent pilling.

Best Cotton Sheets

A Balanced Thickness That Maintains A Silky-Smooth Feel

The Company Store Legends Hotel Supima Cotton Sateen Sheet Set (Queen)

Materials: 100% Supima cotton | Thread count: 450 | Sizes: Twin, twin XL, queen, king, California king, plus queen, king and California king deep-pocket sizes | Key features: Oeko-Tex certified, 15 color choices

Pros:

  • Three deep-pocket options available for thick mattresses
  • Wrinkle-free construction
  • Temperature regulating

Cons:

  • Deep-pocket options are more expensive than the regular sets

A few picks on this list are made from cotton (and not all cotton sheets feel or look the same due to the various weaves they feature), but we named this Legends Hotel set from The Company Store our favorite of them all. That’s because its 450-thread-count construction combined with Supima cotton sateen weave creates an extremely luxurious, hotel-quality feel. “Out of the box, they feel silky smooth and oh-so soft,” says updates writer Alex Garrett. “They also have a nice, balanced thickness that keeps you cozy without overheating.”

However, she notes that they’re not as cooling as other cotton sheets, such as the percale set from Brooklinen, so keep that in mind if you sleep extra hot. They also have a wrinkle-free and durable design that maintains their softness and high-end look, even after several washes. Choose from over a dozen colors as well as deep-pocket sizes if you have a taller mattress.

Best Linen Sheets

An Airy, Durable And Soft Pick

Bed Threads 100% French Flax Linen Bedding Set (Queen)

Materials: 100% flax linen | GSM: 170 | Sizes: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, queen special, king, California king | Key features: Airy and light, available in 20 colorways, Oeko-Tex certified

Pros:

  • Soft and smooth, not scratchy or rough
  • Sustainable material
  • Breathable and durable weave

Cons:

  • Most expensive sheets on our list

Linen sheets are often associated with being scratchy, but the Bed Threads 100% French Flax Linen Sheets rebel strongly against that reputation. As Dillon puts it, they’re “an anomaly in that they manage to be soft to the touch and substantial in weight but light and airy at the same time.” She says they’ve become her go-to set throughout the year since they’re “cozy enough for the wintertime and breathable enough for a hot sleeper in the summertime.”

The Bed Threads sheets offer a lived-in look and come in 20 different colors, from white to pink clay (pictured). They’re the most expensive pick on this list, but they’re durable and designed to last, so we’d consider them a worthy investment. Bed Threads is also a 100% carbon neutral company, meaning it’s dedicated to offsetting all of its carbon emissions and helping the environment.

Softest Sheets

A Buttery-Smooth Set That's Extra Flowy

Materials: 100% bamboo viscose | Thread count: 320 | Sizes: Twin/twin XL, full, queen, king, California king, split king | Key features: Deep pockets, oversized fit

Pros:

  • Extra-soft, buttery feel
  • Can fit mattresses up to 20 inches
  • Flowy, relaxed look

Cons:

  • May be too thin for some

As mentioned earlier, I love a soft sheet. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set is one of my (and many other Forbes Vetted editors’) absolute favorites. These sheets are exceptionally soft and silky. They’re also extremely lightweight and flowy, making them a great cooling option. I have a set that has lasted through several washes over the past few years without any signs of pilling or deterioration.

They have an oversized design, and the fitted sheet can accommodate mattresses up to 20 inches, so they should be able to work for most beds. They come backed with a 10-year warranty, as well. The only downside to being so lightweight is if you choose a lighter color, like white, they’re a little see-through on your pillows and mattress.

Why Trust Forbes Vetted

Our mattress and sleep team has researched, tested and published dozens of sleep and bedding stories across Forbes Vetted, from the coolest pillowcases to our ever-popular best mattresses guide.

  • Author of this article Bridget Chapman is Forbes Vetted’s senior mattress and sleep editor and a certified sleep science coach. She’s tested dozens of sheets and bedding over the years, including ones from the majority of brands on this list.
  • Mattress and sleep editor McKenzie Dillon, who is also a certified sleep science coach with extensive bedding testing experience, contributed her insights to this piece.
  • We consulted with two textile experts for their insights and recommendations: Kathy Kuo, interior designer and founder/CEO of Kathy Kuo Home, and Will Taylor, interior designer and founder of Bright Bazaar.

How We Chose The Best Sheets

To compile a list of the best bed sheets, we dug into our bedding-testing experience and researched the most sought-after sheets from reputable brands like Boll & Branch, Brooklinen, Cozy Earth and others. We also relied on experts insights and consumer reviews.

  • Every sheet set on this list has been thoroughly tested and slept on by a Forbes Vetted staffer. Along with paying attention to details like comfort, design and temperature regulation, we took note of how easy the sheets are to care for and their overall durability.
  • The expert insights of professional interior designers informed our choices and recommendations.
  • We also took into consideration customer reviews and only recommended options that had primarily high ratings.

What To Look For When Shopping For The Best Sheets

Finding the best sheets for you comes down to what feel and materials you prefer, along with any temperature-regulation needs. “Your bed should be a sanctuary, so I would say that it’s worth it to invest in really high-quality sheets,” says Kathy Kuo, interior designer and founder/CEO of Kathy Kuo Home. “Your skin, hair and overall mental and physical health will all benefit from quality sheets and a better night’s sleep.”

Materials

The first aspect to focus on is the type and quality of a sheet’s material. “We spend so much time in our beds, so it’s worth it to spend a little more on bedding to ensure you’re comfortable and surrounded by high-quality materials that will last for a long time,” says Kuo. Here are the sheet materials featured on this list:

  • Cotton. Perhaps the most popular fibers for sheets, cotton is known for being durable, breathable and soft. There are different types and weaves of cotton, like long-staple and sateen, so you can find the right combination for the look and feel you’re after. “If you want a crisp, cool feeling, percale or pure cotton will be your best bet,” says Kuo.
  • Linen. Linen is another durable and popular choice that is especially beneficial for hot sleepers. High-quality linen is typically more expensive than cotton, but it provides a soft, luxurious feel that can last for several years.
  • Bamboo. Bamboo offers a soft, silky and breathable feel. It’s usually lighter in weight than the other materials. It’s either mechanically processed in a closed loop system or chemically processed—the former being the more sustainable choice.
  • Microfiber. This is a type of polyester that has a soft feel with a wrinkle-free design. It’s a more affordable option, but it is a synthetic material and less natural than the others listed above.

Kuo advises keeping in mind whether you plan to swap out your bedding seasonally, as well. “For example, the cool feeling of crisp percale works really well for the warmer summer months, and then the softness and warmth of flannel [sheets] is nice for the wintertime,” she says.

Thread Count

Although often advertised as being important, thread count is not a full indicator of a sheet’s quality. Rather, think of it as a guide: A lower thread count (250 to 300) means a sheet set is going to be more lightweight and breathable, while a higher thread count (400 to 500) correlates to a thicker, heavier sheet. Also keep in mind that every fabric doesn’t use thread count as a measurement; silk, flannel and linen are all ones that don’t use it since they’re manufactured differently.

Bed Height

Will Taylor, interior designer and founder of Bright Bazaar, recommends measuring the height of your mattress (including any toppers) before purchasing sheets. “It’s important to look for sheets that specify both the pocket depth and the material quality to ensure a comfortable, lasting fit,” he says.

If you need deep-pocket sheets (typically over 12 to 14 inches), there should be plenty of options available, including many on our list. “You can find deep-pocket sheets in a variety of materials, including cotton, linen, bamboo and microfiber,” says Taylor.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

“Cotton percale and Egyptian cotton are really tried-and-true materials for comfort and quality,” says Kuo. However, if you’re looking for specific materials for different seasons, she recommends percale for the summer and flannel for the winter.

Five-star hotels often use cotton sheets with either a percale or sateen weave. Percale provides a crisp and cool feel, while sateen offers a softer and warmer feel.

Oprah has featured the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheets in her list of favorite things numerous times over the years. These sheets are super soft, silky and lightweight.

The company is the world’s best 100% cotton bedding fabrics supplier. We are your one-stop shop for all needs. Our staff are highly-specialized and will help you find the product you need.
