I've been contemplating diving into my door replacement initiative for my room. After reviewing several informative woodworking articles on this subject, I'm both excited and a tad anxious about the endeavor.

One of my main concerns is determining the cost of lumber. To create a door measuring 1-3/8 inches thick, I would have to begin with rough 8/4 lumber, which currently seems to cost around 10 CAD per board foot, regardless of whether I choose clear pine or a hardwood variety.

For anyone who has built a door, how do your expenses stack up against purchasing a pre-made one? Is sourcing rough wood more economical than buying an entire door from a retailer?
