Viewing a thread - best end dump for farm use???? - AgTalk Home

Elsmore, Kansas
I have been looking for a while for a good 10 wheeler but I'm starting to think maybe an end dump might be better money spent since I already own 2 semi tractors. What style end dump would be best? What brand would be best? What length would be best? Trailer would be used to haul rock, grain, and possibly wet distillers feed. TIA!We pondered this at great length and ended up with a 24 foot full frame Travis. It is about 6-8 feet too short but it replaced an old 10 wheeler nicely. I really like the idea of an end dump, just get one that is long enough to load with grain.

I don't own one yet, but probably will be next year. A friend hauls my grain, mostly with a 26' end dump. A full load is around 80,000 maybe a little over. And being shorter it's more stable dumping in poor conditions. It's short enough that it gets around amazingly well. Those trailers bring a premium here, the longer ones are usually cheaper.

Happy with both of our Easts. Only thing we've had to replace on the '76 is two trailing arms and the tailgate release air chamber. It's 28' x 96" wide and only holds 920 bu of corn, but is great for lime...never afraid to dump lime in the field like I am with the new 34'.

A liner works best for ease of dumping. I haul lime, rock, manure, and dirt. With a liner you can not haul big rebar/concrete or scrap metal. I raise a little over half way up and all of the above materials run out. Hopper bottom will hold more with the laws in my area, but from field to bin would be nice to have a 34' with high sides.

northeastern Ohio
I two dumps: East 30' steel frame (holds 800 bushel ) and East 34' aluminum frame (holds 900+ bushel ).

I really love the East beds. I have a few straight tri-axle trucks with cheaper beds (J&J, City, ect.. ) and they are junk.

The shorter end dumps (30'and less ) are great for around the farm. Much better stability on uneven ground. The only reason to go longer is if your state has bridge laws that would cause problems for you.

I wouldn't own a trailer shorter than 30'. Get a 32,34 or 39.

Ravens, east,Mac,schein,Travis, vantage. Any of those are top of the line trailers. MAC and Ravens prolly the best resale and most expensive.

It depends where you are from and the bridge laws and such. We have a 39ft on a 230 wheel base semi and can legally be at 80,000. It is also frame less.

south central kansas
I love my Vantage 39 ft sloped side. I haul lime, sand, rock, dirt, and grain. Clear full of good heavy grain usually still not quite 80,000 lbs.

X10. Unless you're never hauling anything but lime, you'll want something longer than a 30 ft. If you are hauling dense stuff like lime, and/or dumping in fields, 30 ft. or less will keep your undies cleaner,LOL. I have a 96W. x 66H. x 38/36L. aluminum frame Ravens. No liner. I pretty much refuse to dump in fields. It will hold 12 to bu. filled to the bows. Weighs 12,500 lbs. with bows and tarp.I'm no expert but I have a frame type thats got a 33' tub on a 36' frame... that extra 3 foot of frame made a good place to put the oil reservoir but its a pain when conditions are a little soft. Not enough weight on the semi tandems for optimum traction.

With several drivers in our crew with varying amounts of experience not all them are comfortable with dumping it when the wind gets to gusting. I assume that would be even more concerning with a frameless.

I have 2 39 foot Hill aluminum frame type trailers. We haul 950 bushel legally gvw
with day cab tractors. We do not have to have every corner full to do this. I had a 24 foot that would hold 600 bushel chuck full. I would think a 28 foot maybe could hold 700 -750 tops unless u had 60 + test weight. Get a longer trailer u won't regret it. I prefer frame type and aluminum frame over steel frame but can be tough to find. Remember most used dumps need suspension and cylinder work this can add up fast. Just my 2 cents.

We bavd a 30' East with steel frame
It was our first semi trailer and the time only had std augers. Have since bought swing augers and gone to hopper bottoms. Mainly use the East for lime & and aggrates and as a backup during harvest. Will.add a long trailer is easier to back than a short one

West KY
In our area, there seems to be only two types of dumps. The ones that have been turned over, and the ones that haven't been turned over YET. Lol.
Mine now falls in the second category after hauling lime. Sent it to Evansville, IN afterwards and you can't tell it was turned over.

North Central OH
Most popular size around here appears to be 34/33 ft with 5-5.5ft side, far more around then hoppers in this area. Have a 33/30 with 6ft sides and have nor problem getting over 80k, put a liner in it and get a coal door if dumping in an auger. The aforementioned size would be better, 6ft side are a bit tall for the ggrain cart, but it was the best option at the time.If you dump a lot of lime like we do get double hinge pins Mac trailer has these what they are the hinge pins that is as wide as the trailer and it makes the trailer real stableDave

Happy with my 40' Trailstar. I believe I heard Mac bought them out, can see why, good trailers.

Whatever you get, make sure it has a liner in it. Always heard they were really good but never knew they were that good till I got this one. Put the box halfway up and everything comes out, nothing sticks at all.

I have a 24' CMC frameless, Hauls about 750 grain but can dump at local coop, and get around farm storage ok. Anything longer than 26 would not work very well. Also haul ag lime and gravel. Liner and tapered bed 96"front, 102" rear work good. Single point suspension good for crossing terraces, field entrances etc if bridge law no problem. At lbs gvw can haul 27 ton ag limehf213

Tractor Dump Trailers: Find Your Model & Shop Here

Tractor Dump Trailers: Find Your Model & Shop Here

Dump trailers are a versatile piece of equipment that sees professional use on golf courses, fields, parks, and much more. Tractor dump trailers are a popular style of this piece of equipment as they can be hauled by a garden tractor rather than a heavy-duty pickup truck. Not only does this make them more accessible, but it also ensures they see use in places you’d never drive a full truck.

You will get efficient and thoughtful service from HUILI Machinery.

At TurfTime Equipment, we build a wide range of turf equipment, including three different tiers of trailers. To help you find the right tractor dump trailer for your needs, we’re breaking down these three options based on capacity. Keep reading to find your trailer — or reach out right now to get pricing from our team!

Dump Trailer Capacity & Model Breakdown

All three tiers of dump trailers we build are built tough and come with a wide range of smart add-ons. Since our units see the most work hauling sand, topsoil, and gravel, we measure the dump trailer capacity in cubic yards.

Light Duty Trailer: 1-Cubic Yard Capacity

Weighing in at just 750 lbs. when empty, our light duty trailers are light enough that they can even be pulled by an ATV. With a dump trailer capacity of 1-cubic yard, this trailer may be slightly too small for some large commercial applications but is great for professional landscaping crews. The bed size on this fully-steel trailer checks in at 80″ long by 52″ wide. Like all of our dump trailers, removable sides make your job easier.

Medium Duty Trailer: 2-Cubic Yard Capacity

Our medium duty dump trailer is a step up from our light model in more ways than one. Firstly, the 2-cubic yard dump trailer capacity doubles the previous, making this model a more popular choice for baseball diamonds and sports field maintenance. While the capacity is doubled, the trailer is not too much larger checking in at 84” long by 61” wide. This means that it is still easy to maneuver — even if it does require a full lawn tractor. One other convenience factor with our medium tractor dump trailer is that the mesh side extensions go up to 36” high to keep your materials safely on board.

Heavy-Duty Trailer (DT-12): 4.5-Cubic Yard Capacity

A great option for large golf courses and campuses with multiple sports fields, this dump trailer is a smart buy. The 4.5-cubic yard capacity provides more than enough hauling potential for most commercial uses. With a bed at 108″ long by 78″ wide and an empty weight around 2,200, this unit is a great middle ground between our medium trailer and our extra heavy-duty option. This tractor also can come with our tallest mesh side extensions measuring at 40” high.

Extra Heavy-Duty Trailer (DT-14): 6-Cubic Yard Capacity

A truly massive heavy-duty tractor dump trailer, everything about our DT-14 model is bigger. The 6-cubic yard capacity is unparalleled, as is the 132” by 78” bed. A trailer of this size ensures that making multiple trips to haul anything is a thing of the past. To ensure that this unit can handle the massive capacity, we equip it with tandem axles — and it’s the only model to come standard with them. When investing in a dump trailer like this, make sure you have a tractor that can handle the 2,600 lbs. frame, not to mention the weight of whatever you’re hauling!

The Importance of Durability

While the bed sizes, capacities, and other factors separate the different tiers of our trailers, they have much more in common. The no-corners-cut construction and the durability that come with them make all the difference. While some cheaper dump trailers may have frames that are bolted together to save manufacturing time, we go the extra mile to equip all of our units with welded frames. This ensures that our trailers (and all of our equipment) last for decades rather than falling apart after a few years of heavy use.
